Debiting account after contract terminated

After my contract expired I opted to cancel, I had to give 3 months notice of which I thought was since I signed up for a 24 month contract and not 27! after the three months notice it was still not cancelled and had to go in store to cancel again of which they said it was now cancelled. I received a statement to pay for another month and after calling vm they told me I would not be debited for that statement of which of course I was.
I don't understand how hard it can be to cancel my contract and stop my money. I have had nothing but bad service with virgin mobile and don't recommend signing up to this company
