Where is the customer service and convinience?

My mom has a spare sim card and its on the Vodacom network. She hadn't used it in awhile... when she downloaded Whatsapp on her new fone, she saw her Vodacom number appearing on her "favourites" list. Only to find that the person using the number is my uncle's ex-girlfriend.
My mom and I then called Vodacom to block this number, a consultant lady ask when last airtime had been loaded and for how much, we told her that we don't remember and we are worried that my uncle's ex would use the number. The consultant lady said my mom must go to the nearest vodacom shop with her ID and they would be able to block it.
My mom went to the Vodacom shop in West street, on a Tuesday. She was told to go to the Vodacom in Gateway.

Now how can a person living in Umlazi be asked to go so far? Is the technology not so advanced at Vodacom? Is it such a mission for the guy in West street to pick-up his phone and call Gateway and block the number fax the ID copy? Where is the customer service?
