Billing after contract was cancelled

I set up a monthly rolling post-pay cell phone contract which allowed for cancellation any time by giving 30 days notice. I gave notice on 20 May 2013 to end the contract on 20 June 2013 and asked in addition that the number be suspended from 5 June 2013.
Cell C did not cancel the contract and billed me for the entire period of June. This is despite me receiving written confirmation back saying that my notice had been received, two calls to customer service and two visits to their Sandton City branch.
Additionally, Sandton City branch twice promised to call me on a specified day to update me and on both ocassions never did.
