Terminating contract

I was due for upgrade and opted for the samsang S4 but unfortunately this special is on the mtn200 anytime package. My current cellphone contract is on a MTN 100. I was then informed that I would have to pay in about R6000 if I want to remain on the MTN100 anytime contract. I was then informed its free on the higher package and agreed to the upgrade but this decision of mine was based on them informing me that if I'm not happy with the cellphone I may return it in 10 days.
Due to certain reasons I opted to return the cellphone within the specified time frames. A couple of days later I received confirmation that I have been credited but I may only take a cellphone to the same value but the contract is still in place.
I then wrote a letter of my dissatisfaction and requested that my previous contract be reinstated with the option of choosing a more appropriate cellphone.
The response I received (from H/O) indicates that they can't change the deal.
How can that be if they accepted the return of the cellphone?? I then asked if I take a cellphone of lesser value will they amend the contract accordingly and the response was NO. But I'll have to pay in if the cellphone is of higher value!
