Beware of buying promotional data bundles

I usually use 1 1/2 to 2 gigs pm. This month I have bought 6 gigs between my ipad, galaxy tab and computer. They have almost all been used up, but according to the data usage on each, I haven't used anywhere near 6G. On Sun I had 300mg on one sim, 270meg on another and bought 500meg for skype. I managed to skype for 1 1/4 hrs on my ipad (which does NOT download data in the background) and had no data left. This is 1 gig for this time. When I phoned to query, I was told I had used it all. Today when Vodacom phoned re my letter querying my problem with the promotional data, he said I had used 1, 4gig for skype. I cannot believe this as I usually skype at least 4 times for 1 1/2hrs each and have data left for email and internet for 1 1/2G. Eventually he said the was a glitsch with Vodacom resetting my data and found 700meg. What about the 1gig for my computer (usage 600meg) that is hardly ever used? Also, you can only view your promotional data bundles through a phone! The ipad and samsung tablet sims do not fit a standard phone so how do I check how much is left? Trying to check balances is also a nightmare as the 'My Vodacom' web page constantly goes back to the sign in page!
