2 years ago I left Vodacom due to a better cell phone deal and kept my number as prepaid so that old contacts could still contact me. Unfortunately the new number I got, belonged to someone whose contacts would only send please call me's and missed calls, and even called after midnight. I could not get a new number and had to finish my 2 year contract.
My MTN contract expires soon and I would like to go back to vodacom now using my old number. I charged up the phone and tried to make a call, only to find that it has been disconnected. I phoned Vodacom customer care to reactivate the number as it was rica'ed in my name and still had airtime on it. I was told it was cancelled by the "system" and I cannot get it back. What happened to NUMBER FOR LIFE?? Who cares if I didn't use it for a few months, its my number and my airtime. If I knew it was going to be disconnected due to inactivity, I would have loaded airtime on a monthly basis. Vodacom has all my contact details for that number and another contract, somebody could have phoned or emailed to notify me. This is unacceptable. If I do not get my number back, Vodacom will never see me again.
