Contract recently renewed

My father is a pensioner and has a contract with Virgin Mobile which he recently renewed in May 2013. The contract that he has now is R200, 00 airtime per month. He landed in hospital and there was no way that he could stay in contact with his family as Virgin Mobile put a stop to all calls on his new contract. VM has been charging him on the airtime that he has accumulated over the months on his old contract, with his new contract. example: He had R600, 00 on old contract - he uses R300, 00 - Debit order for new contract is R200, 00 - VM charges him for R100, 00 plus R200, 00 (new contract). Since when can VM charge people on airtime that they have paid for and is theirs to use. If this is not settled today still, the papers, ombudsman, public protector will be contacted and be informed of this. Is this the way to look after our pensioners, people that has put their life in working for this Country!!!
