Vodacom deducting money, account has expired

The problem, "Vodacom continued to deduct money whereby the contract had expired"... Yes I am aware that it is sometimes accepted that you have to cancel a contract, however the cell number in question had never been used more than 1 month in the 2 year period, the contract was due to expire roughly at the beginning of this year, when attempting to see where my contract stood I could not get in because I did not know the number (which I hadn't used for 2 years), anyway just a warning that although the number was blocked and never in use and the contract had expired in March they continue to deduct from your account until you phone and ask them to cancel the contract that has already expired, I believe this info can be located somewhere in the contract, however this was not informed to me when purchasing the cell phone. I was only told about a 24 month contract. Surely I do not choose to donate money to an account that is not in use and has expired?
