How can a contract be 2years meanwhile a phone is

I have been with this network for four years now. i have never had any problems until now. i got a upgrade last year and i was given a black berry 8520. the phone worked for a year. last month the phone went blank with a white screen. i took the phone in to a cellc retail at the airport. they booked it in for repairs. then early this week i got an sms stating that i must pay R425 for repairs. i called the customer service and i was advise that a phone has a one year guarantee. its funny, how can you have a two year contract and a phone is covered for one year. stupid stupid. i have learnt my lesson, no more with cellc. i can rather go the the other providors cause they offer two years guarantee of the phone (i.e contract is two year) you are covered for it. cellc is rubbish. NCA state that a customer need to be covered for the period of the agreement.
