My debit order is scheduled to come off on the 1st of every month. As I am self-employed I always pay my salary so that it is in my account by the evening on the last day of the month in order to accommodate debit orders. The debit order for April came off on the morning of 31 March and because I hadn't paid my salary into my account yet it subsequently bounced. This not only looks bad if I ever want to apply for finance but also cost me R115 in fees at my bank for not providing for the debit order. Gaynor at the call centre explained to me that this is due to the fact that 1 April was a public holiday and thus the debit orders go off the day before. She said that this is stated in my contract. I feel that, even though it is in the contract, this should be made abundantly clear to the member by the consultant when signing the contract as it is a very serious matter. I realize that it is my responsibility to read through the contract properly before I sign it but one doesn't usually take in details like this and I feel it should be explained to you in person when signing. I fail to see why Virgin Active can't debit me on the 2nd as ALL my other debit orders are done?
