I had called the Virgin Active Head office number today and spoke to a lady called Farima Parker, to whom I explained that my wife and I had signed a two year contract with Virgin Active on the 21st of January 2013. My wife has subsequently become pregnant and because of some complications with the pregnancy she was advised to not exercise while pregnant. I explained to Fatima that I wish to cancel my wife's contract or alternatively reduce her contract period to 1 year. Fatima was very rude and insensitive about this situation and told me that the best she can do is reduce the cancelation fee to 20% and said that the contract period cannot be reduced from a 2 year contract to a 1 year contract the contract merely stated a reasonable cancelation fee).

At this point I have to emphasize that the reason why we signed a two year contract is because the consultant that guided us in signing the contract told us that should we which to reduce the contract period for 2 years to 1 year we can, and then referred us to clause 14 of the contract that reads "If you wish to cancel, freeze, upgrade or downgrade your membership or Home Club, please contact our call centre"
