Last week Thursday, I purchased a Texan Steak that was on "SPECIAL" at Pick n Pay Claremont. I used it on Saturday (it was frozen until then) and was disturbed at the taste of the meat. For one, it did NOT taste like a texan steak usually does... the texture of the meat appeared to be "mushy" and processed it tasted more like the texture of liver than of steak. It had an awful undertone to it as though the meat was off. I checked the expiry date and it was supposedly still "safe for usage". I am not sure if this meat was on "SPECIAL" because it was of rubbish quality or if it was even meat at all. My family were quite grossed out by the weirdness of this meat, and with the current claims of meat not actually being what they claim to be, we chose to throw it away immediately.
I am hugely disappointed in Pick n Pay, especially Claremont branch as I am a regular shopper there and would never have expected a food retailer as respected as Pick n Pay to take chances selling off such a disgusting excuse for meat or whatever that was. I always appreciated their halaal selection of meats, but I will no longer support them or advise anyone to purchase meat of a halaal quality from them.
