At Pick n Pay Somerset West, my card payment wouldn't go through. The cashier suggested I draw cash at the ATM outside. Anxious that my account had somehow been cleaned out, I used the ABSA ATM, only to find that all was OK, and I drew some cash.
I was shaken and humiliated, and now liable for Sashwich fees. My account is a Pick n Pay Gobanking account, operated by Pick n Pay through Nedbank.
At the manager's station in the store I told my tale to the lady there, and asked how Pick n Pay would compensate me for the Saswich fees.
She was not interested in my problem and referred me to the customer services counter.
Wanting the issue resolved there and then, I insisted to see the manager. It turned out that this WAS the manager! Her attitude was brusque and offhand. I told her I will take this further. I gave her my contact details and at her request, I let her make a photocopy of my card.
This was in the midst of the Saturday morning shopping crowd. Not once did I hear an apology. Later, customer care phoned to tell me to go to the store to sort out the problem between Pick n Pay and my bank!!!
Perhaps it is time to change to Checkers?
