Pick 'n Pay
Invasion of privacy

On 01/02/2013 My husband and I went into ilanga mall. i came from work and had to buy a few things there. Upon entering Pick 'n Pay, the security guard stopped us and asked to seal my plastic bag with my personal belongings. I handed it to him to seal, and the next moment he opened the plastic packet, and looked at what was inside. I find this ridiculous because i am entering the shop, not leaving. I kept quiet and waited for him to seal the plastic packet, like he wanted to do in the first place. He then asked me to help him to seal the plastic packet (same size as a grocery bag). What is so difficult about sealing a packet that size? First he looks at the contents of my bag, and then still wants me to help him do a one man job(?). My question: "Is this person trained enough, or is it pure arrogance? ". I feel that this is invasion of privacy, because if he had any reason to think anything suspicious, he could have asked me before looking inside my packet, or even to refuse to allow me to enter the shop with my packet. I am a female and carry personal belongings with me. I find this totally unacceptable, and hope that you will be able to sort this out.
