I find it very hard to believe that in the heart of Sandton, such a dirty, dingy and poorly serviced store actually stays open. Having never been to Sandton City Checkers Hyper before today, I will never return there if I can help it.
On arrival, I was shocked at the state of the trolleys with most being broken and all of them filthy.
When I dished up salads for myself at the salad bar, the ladies working in the area were disinterested and very abrupt when I asked where to have the salads weighed. When I found my way around the throngs of people to get to the scale which was situated quite a distance from the salad bar, the lady who weighed my salads then applied a lid with her bare hands after leaning on the pile of lids whilst weighing the food. I asked her for a fresh lid and why she doesn't wear gloves and she told me she doesn't have to wear gloves.
After getting the rest of my purchase into my (very dirty) trolley I made my way to a check-out point where the teller (Clekkie I think) was the most disinterested, cold and anti-customer person I have met in a long time. Dead-pan face, dead-pan voice, mono-syllabic speech... charming. Never again
