Savells Fairdeal
Forced sales!!!

Our domestic worker, who is functionally illiterate, went into Savell's in Plettenberg Bay on 24.11.2012 wanting to loan R1000. They forced her to buy a KIC fridge for R3000 plus a whole lot of other charges which came to a total of R4837.99. She then wrote them a letter and took it in to them yesterday asking them to cancel the contract and take the fridge back as she never wanted a fridge to start with. When she went in they refused to sign for the letter, and were very rude and as such we think they're going to do nothing about it! We, as her employers, are horrified at what she was allowed to "borrow" on her low salary. This poor woman lives on very little as it is, and can't afford to repay what they're wanting! She asked for a R1000 loan and it's now going to cost her R18 000, at a 31% interest rate! They never did a proper background check on her, as we were never phoned to even confirm employment - she could be earning nothing!!! What is it going to take for her to get out of this contract?
