Multiple Gift Cards From Wedding Not Working

My wife and I got married in Dec 2011. We received 3 Edgars gift cards besides others. We were married in Durban though reside in Somerset West, CPT. Only 1 of the 3 gift cards worked, the others did not. 1 of these cards might have been purchased in JHB area from family members. This partly adds to the reason why we left this for so long, because we hardly see our family and did not have a chance to go to the stores where these cards were purchased.

The problem is that we did not receive all the slips with the gift cards which the cashier sometimes forgets to hand to you. Furthermore the gift card has no history based tracking system. So Edgars isn't able to say how much was initially on, where it was loaded, where it was used etc.

A real possibility is that a cashier might have the money and did not load the gift cards or provide the receipt. So when we get it, there is no proof of purchase or credit. I emailed Edgars on the 31 Jan this year though only received a lady telling me sorry the system is offline, I can't check for you now.

The value is R800 of the two cards. My wife said 2 colleagues at work also said Edcon group cards do not work. Is this a larger problem?
