Want to trick clients into contracts

We installed a Matrix tracking device in 2010. I called to enquire about getting the panic button replaced and was informed they no longer offer the system we have. I asked how are we going to sort this out as we have been paying every month for the past 4 years and was offered a new system. The call centre agent then told me that i have to pay R 250.00 for installation and the contract will be for 3 years. I explained that the system was offered with the vehicle and paid for in cash and we do not have a contract. I asked what happen if we want to cancel and was told that we will be liable for the cancellation and settlement of the contract which is 3 years. My question is that Matrix discontinued the system. We were never advised of this. I also want to know if the old system is still working as we never tested it. This is the worst customer service i experienced. The agent told me that she can arrange for the R 250.00 to be waived subject to us accepting the contract. We do not live in America and have consumer rights that protect against such practice. Why did they sell a Product that they knew will be discontinued.
