Having read and heard the countless media inserts advertising what appeared to be an unforgettable Coffee and Chocolate Expo at Monte Casino, my girlfriend and I were really excited to attend. The advertising showed decadent chocolates and exotic coffees. At an advertised price of R140 per person at the door, the price although quite high, the expectation for any logical person would be that the expo would charge a higher price to cover costs of consumables for their customers.
On Saturday 20th July, we finally arrived at the Expo, and what a complete dissapointment. There was no illustrous decor or enticing surroundings to support something as decadent as a Coffee and Chocolate expo. The Expo resembled a mini Rand Show! Almost every retailer had no tastings on offer. If you wanted to attend a tasting session, this was a further R80-100 per person. Prices of exhibitors were stupendous as well, to the degree of one retailer selling mini burgers at R70 each! The entire expo was a complete farce that with many unknown exhibitors selling sub par products at imaginative prices. Never again will I be attending any event companies associated with the Coffee and Chocolate Expo.
