I have a lease till end of June 2013. In December I got an email from the mentioned estate agent that the property had been sold (I wasn't even aware that it was in the market!) and that my contract won't be renewed. I was also told that it would be appreciated if I can move out earlier and as such would then be released from the contract without penalties. I was upset, but promised to be accommodating and try to get another place earlier.
I bought another house and pushed for occupation as soon as possible to accommodate the abovementioned request. I was told to just give a month's notice when I want to move out and as such gave notice on the 26/3 for the end of April.
Now I am told that the situation doesn't suit the initial landlords (I thought the house was sold) and that I must stay until the end of May or pay the penalties that applies when you move out before the end of your lease.
Here I was being the nice person doing them a favour by trying to see how soon I can move, and now being told that I will be penalized.
