Department Of Home Affairs
Identity document duplication

My twin sister and I have similar ID numbers, the only difference being the last 4 digits. When we first applied for ID's in 2003, Dept of Home Affairs messed up our application by issuing us with ID's that had exactly the same ID number but different pictures, being mine and my sisters, we advised them of the mistake and they assured that the mistake would be ractified, which it was because we later received our ID with the correct ID numbers and pictures..little did we know that years later this mistake would rear it's ugly head.

Seven years later, in 2010, we found out that my ID number had been blocked due to a duplication therefore I couldn't do simple things like open an account because I didn't exist according to Home Affairs. My sister and I had to go back to home affairs in Rustenburg and apply for ID's yet again so my ID number can be unblock my ID so my life could continue. Once again, we received new ID documents and were assured that the duplication had been resolved and we would never experience this issue again

Well, I wouldn't say that..last week I got happily married or so I thought, I was informed I can't be legally married because my ID number has been blocked
