SASSA
Disabled Pensioner cut off because no home visit

My domestic worker's husband is a bedridden, incontinent pensioner. His condition results from a series of strokes that he had last year. After his last stroke she was assisted by social workers to obtain a card so that she could draw his pension for him & was told that there would be a home visit to verify his condition. This was in June 2012 and no one has visited yet.
His pension has now been cut off and she is unable to afford his adult nappies, sufficient electricity or food. She has spent 3 full days at various SASSA offices before being told, after refusing to leave at closing time, that her name is now on a list and that she must wait for a home visit to verify that her husband is still alive and disabled. She understandably does not believe that his will happen.
I sent an email to SASSA WC on 14/08/2013 asking for the contact details of the relevant person so that we can arrange said home visit but have not received a response. In the meantime my domestic worker is having to borrow money to pay for all of the necessary items to care for her husband. This situation is completely unacceptable.
