We recently had a water pipe burst in the street outside our house. I only realised there was a problem when my kid pointed out that the water coming out of our hot and cold taps contained lots of sand.
I checked outside in the street and water was gushing out from under the tar. We contacted the City of Cape Town water dept. They came out and shut down the water supply in the street. They said they would return the following morning to repair the damaged pipe. This they did.
Since the pipe burst, I have been finding sand coming from our cold and hot water taps. We are therefore unable to drink the water. In addition, the water coming from our geyser has slowed to a trickle and the taps are constantly dripping. We again contacted the City of Cape Town and were told that what happens inside the property is not their problem and we will need to get a private plumber out at our cost to fix the issue. Our geyser is only 8 months old and we had no water issues prior to the burst pipe. It is obvious that poor maintenance and the burst pipe are directly related to our water problems inside the house. Why is it our problem? I pay rates and taxes. CCT you disgust me!
