Eskom misread my meter in December and charged me R11000 (eleven thousand rand) when my monthly average is always -R800 (eight hundred rand). When I received this account I phoned them and they corrected the account and I assumed they would not make the same mistake again. Two months later and I receive an SMS demanding payment for a new account with an incorrect meter reading for R10000 . This was on Thursday just before Good Friday. I was unable to resolve this then as I was away. First thing Tuesday morning I phone Eskom accounts and give them correct meter readings. The consultant tells me I must pay the R10000 or I will be cut off despite this being Eskom's error (the second in as many months). I am unhappy and speak to a supervisor who is useless and says he will escalate it but can't guarantee anyone will get back to me. Due to Eskom's incompetence I am put in an impossible situation and they do not show any intent to sort this problem out. How can they hire people who cannot read to take meter readings and how can they make the same mistake twice??
