Dear animal lover, I want to share this with you. On Saturday my loving Rottie, Amiga, died of bloat. That day she ate well, was alert and energetic. Suddenly at around 18:00 she went to the study, a room she never ever goes to. She laid down next to me and from her panting I knew she was in serious trouble. I then phoned the Tygerberg Animal hospital and explained her symptoms. I was told to bring her in IMMEDIATELY. We rushed her there only to be told that there were people before us and paperwork to be done. Explaining that my dog was unable to walk, had difficulty breathing and was dying had no effect on the receptionist. She even answered a call from her friend, stopped everything she was busy with and chatted about holiday celebrations. I respect the fact that other people were there before me, but their animals did not have life threatening conditions. After 30 minutes she told us: "Bring in the Rottweiler! ". We took her to the waiting room where her condition further deteriorated. We begged the secretary to please call a vet. All I wanted at that stage was for my dog to be put to sleep. She just said we must wait because they only have one vet on duty. Had she told me...
