Easton Berry: How NOT to collect debt

I was informed by a credit provider that I have been listed by Truworths for a outstanding debt from 2008 of which I was not aware. I was never contact about this in five years. I called Truworths, who referred me to Easton Berry Inc. I called Easton Berry's offices (031 251 4068) on Friday, Nov 8, held on for a long time and was eventually told that Melissa worked on my account and would call me back. I also left my email address. I heard nothing from them, so I called again on Monday, Nov 11. Melissa informed me of the debt AND that I must now pay a R300 tracing fee. I queried that, saying I actually traced you. My phone number has not changed since 1997 -- why did nobody ever call me about this debt? Why list me five years later? She said they tried to phone me twice in the past year. But no message was ever left on my phone. I told her I would have called back to settle the debt. She said if I don't pay the tracing fee, my credit record would not be cleared. I asked for her to take this up with her manager. What did she do? She put the phone down in my ear. I am still waiting for details on how to settle the account. Unbelievable.
