In February 2012 my wife was admitted to the hospital for pre pre-eclampsia. They did a emergency caesarean and my baby boy was born on the 9th. Later I received an account from Eugene Marais Hospital for 1 day which my medical aid did not want to pay. I spoke to my medical aid and they explained to me that me that the hospital did not allocate the costs to the correct procedure numbers, in other words their case workers did not do their job. After battling with the hospital for over a year where I refused to pay this amount, and after they had threatened me with legal action my now 1 year old boy got very sick (Difficulty breathing) and needed emergency admittance to a hospital. I took him to Eugene Marais Hospital (Closest) and low and behold, the hospital will not admit my son unless I pay the outstanding amount! I paid the amount they said I owe and the help my son. He was in hospital for over a week and spend 2 days in ICU. After I complained some more the hospital made a arrangement with my medical aid (Supposedly) but now a month later still finality to the situation. How can a hospital extort money from people in need? Sincerely Lodewyk Bron
