Stanger Hospital
Death Due to Negligence

My uncle was admitted to Stanger Hospital on the 16 January 2013 due to gunshot wounds, he underwent an operation on the same night at 8pm. He was neglected and not given any food, but was constantly given pain and other medication on an empty stomach. The family requested his transfer on may occasions to the nearest hospital in Durban but was refused this transfer. The family constantly went to visit him, and we found that he was starved and was never given food. His gunshot wound was to his back, and therefore he could not walk, the nurses never assisted him to have a bath, and he had to go to the bathroom on his knees. When he requested clutches to walk with, the nurses refused him the permission as the doctor never authorize the use. On the 3rd February when we called his phone @ 9am we were told that he had passed away, and we were not given sufficient details of cause of death. The nurse didnt even know what time he died, and said maybe @ nite. I need this matter investigated, the nurses should do they night rounds, and not ignore a patient, he could have survived if he had food on time, and even if he was transferred. Nurses at the surgical ward had no name tags.
