Might as well not have a medical aid

I was in a major car accident on Saturday evening 30 November 2013. My Fiance and I were rushed to the hospital with the ambulance. I did not have my medical aid card on me as all our things were strewn accross the highway. My fiance is covered by Discovery... the hospital was able to phone their 24 hour emergency line to get his medical aid details and he was seen to immediately.

Bankmed was called and it turns out that if your in a serious accident and don't have your medical aid details on you, you are basically without medical aid because they have no 24 hour emergency line. I had to get me sister to drive to my house to get hold of one of my statements for my medical aid number... if I was critically injured I would have died in that time... or been sent to a government hospital. What is the point of having a comprehensive medical aid? Bankmed is absolutely useless and if I wasn't forced to stay with them becaus e of the bank I would have moved immediately.

To add insult to injury, when I went to get meds the next day they declined that too. Pathetic.
