Netcare
Indifference and bad bedside manne

My baby who is 11 and half months old had a high temperature on Wednesday night so we decided to take her to Umhlanga hospital. I was told by the nurse on duty at casualties that they were rather busy due to an accident and we would have to wait. She was a lovely young girl that constantly checked up on us and constantly came in to take babies temp and gave us a suppository for the baby. Eventually the doctor came in and i would love to tell you what his name was but he did not introduce himself.
we explained that the baby had a high fever which was 38.7 when we got there and it had been happening throughout the day. Anyone who is a parent that has read baby books would know that a high temp is a very dangerous thing that can lead to convulsions and/or brain damage.
The doctor was very indifferent to this and just said oh temperatures are normal with babies and its not to worry about. He just checked her up quickly and said that she has a bit of an inflamed tonsil and gave us new meds and left. He did not explain how to take the meds but left that for the nurse to explain and to be honest she was a very sweet girl but was not clued up enough to explain how to take the meds.
