I had a total knee replacement on 5th November 2013 that was performed by Dr A Baker at Entabeni Hospital. The anaesthetist was Dr L Baker. I chose Dr Baker as he uses a method where the surgery and recovery time are reduced by an estimated 40%. I made enquiries in this regard and also had a 2nd opinion from a Dr who uses the conventional method for this surgery. Discovery have paid me R8, 000 short on these accounts and I do not have the means to pay this shortfall.
I have been a member of Discovery Health for many years and am astounded that they have not settled these accounts as I chose my Dr to cut down on the cost of the surgery and the recovery time as I work. The operation was very successful and I am planning to return to work on 2nd December.
