Went to the Golden Service Awards held at the Maroela Room at Sandton Sun Hotel on 16 October 2013. Prior to the event I specified a gluten/ nut / shellfish free menu due to my dietary restrictions. The main meal was rack of lamb but the waiter brought me chicken with exactly the same sauce as used on the lamb (I have a suspicion that the meal was glutinous as I have a reaction today. For dessert they brought me a baked pudding which I sent back and requested my gluten free dessert as pre-ordered. The waiter brought me a cheesecake with the following label on the cellophane which it was still wrapped with: "Allergens: Gluten, tree nuts, egg, shellfish, mustard, celery, and so the list goes on.. Being highly sensitive to these foods which might result in anaphylactic shock I was shocked at how much disregard the waiters had for me as a guest (very unfriendly and unhelpful) After sending the second dessert back the waiter came back to me saying that they do not have any gluten free dessert and brought me a plate of fruit. The tickets to the event was expensive and I expected far better service. Very disappointing service.
