I heard about the lunch special at Sixteen82 Bistro (Steenberg). I called the restaurant and asked if the lunch special was still on. I was told it and that it was a 2 plate tapas special & a carafe of wine. I said that's perfect as we only wanted a light lunch. I booked for 5 adults and 4 kids for lunch the next day.
On arrival we were told that the special only starts at 4pm. I queried this with the hostess who was very polite and wanted to assist, however never made any effort to compensate us. I asked if there was a picnic option, and she told us you could buy cold meats and cheeses. As none of us eat pork this was declined.
We ended up spending close on R300, 00 a head.
On following up the next week, the manager suggested I had asked about the tapas menu and confused his staff member (who was 'really very sorry)'...and that no responsibility would be taken to rectify. As far as he was concerned the restaurant was vindicated. I might be wrong, however this seems a really poor way of dealing with what was a misunderstanding. Simple fact is, I booked a lunch special for R90 a head, my booking was taken, and the special was not available. Very arrogant response in my opinion.
