Why do I have medical aid?

I phoned to make an appointment. Got my appointment. When I went to the Medicross, I first had to stand in the que for 20 minutes before being helped, because of only one staff member on duty. They then proceeded to open a file for me, after that I was informed that I have to pay cash for the appointment because it was my first. Firstly, why was I not told this when I phoned, the lady that spoke to me on the phone asked me if it was my first time there. Secondly, I have a medical aid that pays for my medical bills, why do I need to pay out of my pocket? I pay the medical aid already? Then the lady at reception calls another lady from the back, and she tells me, this is their policy, with quite the attitute. Needless to say I will never be using your medicross as I will then always have to pay first.
