Lancet
Why must the patient sort out disputes?

On the 8 May 2013 I received an account from Lancet Laboratories of an account dated 22 January 2013 that an amount of R520.70 was short paid by my medical aid GEMS. I queried the account with my medical aid and they informed me that the account was short paid because Lancet Laboratories charged twice for the same test. I sent Lancet the response from my medical aid and they said it was two different tests. Lancet has only contacted me five months later after the account was short paid and now threatened to hand me over. I cannot understand why I have to be the middleman between Gems and Lancet to sort this out. If it was two separate tests surely the laboratories must prove it to the medical aid and not me the member. It is very easy to threaten a person to pay but surely if my medical aid tells me they are charging me twice it should be investigated and not just accepted.
I have now paid the account as it is very difficult if you are handed over. I just feel that this happens often and lancet get away with it by just threatening handover. Surely charging twice for the same test is?
if it was two tests why not then prove it.

Thanking You
Mrs M.Louw
