I was admitted to the Olivedale Mediclinic in October last year with acute abdominal pains and was treated by Dr Visagie. All good, and no complaints with regards to the treatment received. what I do have a problem with Is doctor charging an emergency call out fee of R 638.32 to walk from the emergency ward to my ward which is a distance of 100m if that. I would understand an emergency call out fee if Doctors was at his rooms, or off premises, but he was the doctor on duty! when I queried the call out fee with his office, I was told in no uncertain terms that doctor is entitled to charge an emergency call out fee. My medical aid paid the doctor his full account with the exception of R360.02 shortfall on the emergency call out fee. I left numerous messages for doctor to call me to discuss this call out fee, but have yet to receive a call back from him. His Secretary just keeps on saying I must speak to the doctor directly to discuss, but doctor does not call back!! I think Medical aids and patients should be more aware of what doctors charge, and this doctor, is clearly in it for the money.
