I have never had such a negative experience with a Game Ranger. With each animal we stopped to view, Frans could only talk about the commercial use of the animal. For example, while we were watching the ostriches, he told us that their skin is used for handbags and shoes, their bones for animal feed, etc. While I understand that wild animals are farmed commercially, I do not visit nature reserves to discuss this fact. I visit nature reserves to support the preservation of wildlife in their natural habitat, and to learn more about these animals in their natural habitat. I was shocked at how poorly informed Frans was regarding the nature reserve he works for. There were many children on the game drive, and all they were learning was that wild animals are only good for what they can produce after they are killed. One of the passengers commented that he and his family were vegetarians. Frans simply laughed, and continued to talk about the taste and texture of the meat of the many animals we saw. It was very insensitive. I actually got to the point where I hoped we would not see any more animals on the game drive, because I did not want to hear about Frans eating them.
