Less than 2 years ago my husband and I had saved enough money to fix what was needed in our house. One of the things needing replacing was the motor for our gate. My husband was talked into getting a new motor by Automated Gate Repair Services, when they came round to repair our old motor, which had lasted us a good 11 years without much trouble. Not long after the motor was replaced we had a storm and the gate stopped working. We called them, thinking that because it was within the warranty time that it would not cost anything to replace. To our surprise we were handed a bill of over R2000, their excuse being that the motor had been struck by lightning and the warranty did not cover that.

Recently, after some days of constant rain the gate started opening and closing, and wasn't working properly. Again we called Automated gate Repair. Again the problem was that the board was 'struck by lightning', as well as water damage to a part of the motor.

The bill was as follows:

I feel we've been ripped off. We can"t be paying all this money for a product which is clearly inferior.
