I have been using a Canon iP4200 printer on my PC for eight years. Mechanically it is still perfect. My computer recently broke down, and I bought a new one running Windows8. After quite a bit of trial and error and investigation I established that Canon never released a driver for that printer on Windows8 and has no plans to do so. Canon USA has a customer loyalty scheme for customers in this situation. Canon in S.A. has no such scheme, and their solution to my problem is for me to buy a new printer. All the ink cartridges in my printer are more or less full, and I have one spare. So I am sitting with a mechanically perfect printer and more than a thousand rands worth of ink which I cannot use.
