I went into Builders Warehouse Fourways to purchase paint. As I was not sure of the exact colour of the paint required, I asked at the paint counter for the smallest quantity of paint I can purchase so I can test the colour on a wall at home. I was told that the minimum quantity I could purchase was one litre.
As the colour was not correct, I purchased a couple more litres of 'sample' paint.
The one time I went in, the assistant said that he could change the colour slightly by adding a bit more tint to my existing tin. This seemed preferable than having to buy another litre.
Yesterday, I wanted to try another colour and asked for another litre. As the type of paint was not available, the assistant asked if he could supply another manufacturers product. I said it did not matter as I wanted to test the colour.
After collecting my tin of mixed paint, another customer came to collect little plastic containers. I asked the assistant what those containers were; his reply stunned me as they were colour testers priced at R30.00 compared to the R100.00 to R200.00 that I had been paying to test for the colour I wanted.
A friend of mine recently had the same experience.
