I met Jaco in January 2013 whilst renovating our new home. In February we paid him a deposit, confirmed his designs for a staircase, two sets of gates and changes to balcony rails. He started the job and took me to his workshop to ensure I was satisfied with the colour. After that, enquiries about progress was met with excuse after excuse. Months later I had to be rather harsh to get him to understand that the missing tread was dangerous and that the temporary pine planks were no longer acceptable. The one gate did't fit at all and the other set didn't look good at all.. Jaco then started fowarding my calls to his cell phone, to his assistant. 9 months after paying the initial deposit (there were two which came to R90k) I handed him over to lawyers and he gave them the same run around. Only when they threatened him with further legal action did he agree to deliver the remaining gates (which didn't fit). So I am left with an incomplete and creaky staircase, two sets of ill fitting, rusty gates that don't lock, (one set is not even hung) and balcony rails that have tape and glue on the from a year ago which has been baked on by the sun. They do this, I hear from his own staff
