I had an leaking water pipe close to the water meter (after hours) and discovered that the washer had perished. I called the Emergency Plumbing line and was allocated AAA plumbing (who contacted me and sent a plumber around). They indicated that they would quote before moving ahead. The plumbers arrived and fixed the fault within 15 minutes - replacing the washer and reconnecting the pipes. I was called with a quotation of R1680 for this work. When I objected, AAA plumbing reverted with a "discounted rate" of R1368 which I had no option but to pay since the work had been completed. Even with an after hours callout rate, this could not have cost more than R800 (I had an alternative quote of R550 which arrived after AAA plumbing had arrived). AAA disputed that changing a R4.00 washer could be charged at less than R1368 because of their 3 month warranty. I believe this to be unscrupulous overcharging and feel that AAA simply took advantage of the crisis. Despite an email to them querying this and requesting that they review and rectify this overcharge, they have refused to respond. Buyers beware of this unscrupulous firm of plumbers!
