I recently sold my house and had to get an electricity compliance certificate. De Villiers Electrical cc was recommended by the transferring attorney.
No real assessment was done, no measurements, no instruments, very unprofessional. Yet they quoted R24000!!
I got another electrician who was thorough, professional and honest, and completed everything for R9800.
But: De Villiers Electrical then still had the audacity to charge me R1300 for their thumb sucked "assessment". I feel that I have been: Instead of assessing, they just quote extremely high to cover themselves. If the client accepts, they overcharge with R14000! But, if the client has some savvy and rejects, they still charge R1300 for absutely nothing! Either way, they get money at their client's expense.
Colin just said it's not his fault: He subcontracted another electrician. But the assessment was on de Villiers Electrical cc letterhead, and he accepted payment.
He acknowledged that it was wrong, but refused to refund. I'm not going to pursue this further, but I wanted to put this out there to warn prospective clients.
