I contracted Paul Bartkunsky as my builder for a home renovation. It was a huge mistake. After asking for and receiving a substantial deposit, he quickly knocked down as much as he could. But then I had to wait months before any materials arrived. He about submitting amended plans to council. He didn't pay his suppliers, resulting in further delays. The quality of his work was often appalling (especially the re-wiring of the house, even though he is apparently a qualified electrician). All in all, it was a horrible experience - so much time wasted and a constant stream of to 'explain' the delays. And I'm not alone. I've heard from a number of his clients and they have all had a similarly disastrous experience. After nearly two years of banging my head against a wall, I eventually fired him, even though I lost a lot of money in the process. And then I had to pay my new builder to fix up the mess. To make matters worse, I just don't think he had any intention of finishing the job. This seems to be his pattern: take as much money as possible, deliver as little as possible and then wait to get kicked off the job. This is just a warning to stay well clear...
