On Friday 1st February due to an amount of R5623.00 being deducted from my credit card for Hertz rent a car. I was informed that the amount was for car damage but was not in my name and that the person concerned had a similar credit card number to mine and due to an error in entering the number the system had debited my credit card.
I was informed via Hertz customer centre that this amount would be reversed, this was subsequently done.
The issue is that as it was a Sunday when I received the notification via sms from my bank, I assumed that it may be credit card as the only place I had ever used the credit card was at Hertz a year ago. For this reason I had a block put on my credit card and a new card will be issued in 5 days.
The replacement card carries a fee of approx R65.00 for services, so I enquired, if this amount can be paid by Hertz as it was their error to start with.
I was informed that they would not pay the fee but would upgrade my next hire car. (in 53 years I have only hired a car once so this was of no help to me).
