Booked a car online through Argus Car Hire/Rent a Car with Europcar. Paid the deposit and took out additional insurance through Argus' website and for which I paid additionally. Argus throughout the transaction sold the "car rental service" provided by Europcar with the latter's knowledge and consent, fully aware of the latter's terms and conditions. Despite this, on arriving at King Shaka Airport, I was informed that because I did not take out Europcar's additional insurance (as sold by Europcar), there will be a hold of R8000 placed on my card. Note that Argus could not promote or sell Europcar's rental service without their consent.
After the assistant at Europcar queried me in detail regarding the card used to pay for the rental making it very uncomfortable for both myself as well as my girlfriend. Which was supposed to be a relaxing holiday turned out to be a very uncomfortable and stressful affair. In my opinion the assistant at Europcar was not very knowledgeable and this led to this situation.
I cannot recommend the service offered by either of these companies and we subsequently rented a car from Avis with a hold of R2000 and without any prior reservation.
