General Motors South Africa
VEHICLE CLUTCH FAILURE

We purchased a brand new Chevrolet Captiva 2.4 LT FWD in 2012 and the vehicle has so far had only the first service. On Friday the 29th November the vehicle broke down with clutch problems and would not drive so the vehicle was loaded onto a low bed and delivered to the agents. The vehicle was dismantled and the dealer stated that the clutch has burnt out due to driver negligence with only 29000km on the clock. Having done some research it would appear that Captiva's have problems with premature clutch failure and can be associated to the Dual Mass Flywheel. On inspection of the failed parts the clutch plate shows signs of the friction material being ripped away. The dealer is requesting that we pay R26, 000 for the necessary repairs and in their opinion are not covered under the 120, 000km warranty. We have attempted to lodge our complaint directly to the factory and they are not even prepared to provide any other opinion, except to state that the clutch is not covered under the warranty terms. Having had many different vehicles in my 45 years of driving experience this is the first time that we have experienced a clutch issue. Can you help??
