General Motors South Africa
Defective 2013 Opel Astra OPC

Purchased vehicle on 3rd May 2013. Vehicle was scratched in a few areas. Taken to workshop 3 times for a "service error" message. On the 4th occasion, we were told that a clamp had been left in the spring which should have been removed after transportation. At 5000kms there was a squeaky/scratchy noise. Thereafter the car jerked and ESP light switched on. Vehicle was taken to Key, Mobeni, and we were advised to pay R27288.30 for brake pads and discs. I find this totally unacceptable. My question is, do all guys that buy a new OPC have to fork out R27000 every 5000kms to repair brakes? There is absolutely no warning mechanism available. One will only know that the brakes are damaged once a squeaky/scratchy sound is heard. This is what I was told by the Service Advisor. We believe that the vehicle sold to us was a defective vehicle with numerous issues from the day I purchased it. I enquired about motor plans, maintenance and service plans before I purchased the vehicle and I was assured that if anything happens, all I had to do was bring my vehicle in and it will be repaired as it had all of the above. I feel that my right to fair value, safety and good quality have been infringed.
