I was shocked to receive a call this morning from ABSA CREDIT CARD DIVISION for payment arrangements and a threat of judgement against me, regardless of paying a R100 in Feb and R200 for two consecutive months. I confirmed to the lady that I will pay the required amount as it appears on the statement. She then told me that there is no statement because the account is with the legal dept., and interests have not been added. The total debt is unknown to me as I am not getting statements, how can I pay a debt without knowing the balance, surely I have a right to know how much is left. I decided to buy my credit report, to my surprise, the figures don't add up, how can the instalment be greater than the balance. On 30/01/13 the balance was R1107. Instead of sending my bill and updating the status of the account on the bureau the lady said that she is going to send me the arrangement form to sign, I am not paying a cent until I know the balance, and they need to fix the on my report. I'm planning to validate the judgement on my Absa loan because I have never received any judgement documents or summons from the court and now the bank attorneys are threating me with the garnishee.
