Standard Bank
Unpaid Maternity Leave

I have a prestige account with Standard Bank and I'm going on four months unpaid maternity leave, so I went to the bank to make arrangements that during this period, my loan repayments be suspended or put on hold. I tried calling the call centre and I would be put on hold for 30min just to be sent to another department to hold for another 20min. Eventually a consultant said I need to go to a branch with my ID to make an arrangement. I went to Woodridge branch in Kempton Park, which could not help us and put us back on the phone with the credit department. The credit department said the account must first be in arreas before they can help me. What sense does that make, I am trying to avoid the account being in arreas by trying to make an arrange and avoid a bad credit record. I was then told to contact my prestige banker who could not help me at all either. It doesn't make sense not to assist a pregnant woman going on unpaid maternity leave to avoid going into arreas, who is attempting to make an arrangement. To be simply told I must be in arreas first is not logic.
